When Halifax resident Holly Bartlett was found almost a kilometre from her condo, police quickly closed her case, calling her death an accident. Rather than stepping out of a taxi and entering her building, as she’d done hundreds of times, they concluded the 31-year-old woman, who was blind, wandered drunk and disoriented away from her building, down a 300m hill. Then, that she crawled under a fence and up a cement structure beneath the McKay Bridge, where she suffered the injuries that contributed to her death. All of this instead of exiting a taxi and arriving safely home.
Family, friends and colleagues have never believed it, insisting her death was suspicious. Almost a decade later, a team of investigators return to Holly’s story. With interesting examples of how Holly’s loss of eyesight had never held her back, and exploring techniques she’d use on a daily basis that prove her competence but also cast serious shadows on the police reports, this film reviews old evidence and uncovers new, with interviews with her family entwined. This programme – available as a 3-part series or a TV hour film, sheds light on what really happened that frosty March evening.
